Roman Blinds Measuring

  • Measure Romans to fit outside the frame. Only exceptional circumstances will Romans fit inside the frame, please contact us before ordering if this applies to you.
  • Fitting Romans 100mm above the frame is standard as there should be solid fixing to screw into. Some fabric will cover the top of your frame when blind is fully pulled up.
  • Whereas fitting Romans 250mm above means fabric should clear most of the frame, as the finished fold when pulled up approximately stacks to 250mm.
  • Our chain operated Roman track has a 40mm profile, therefore holds the fabric 40mm off the wall.
  • Consider selecting a chain length about 2/3rd the height of the blind.

Roman Blind Measuring Outside Fit

TOOLS REQUIRED:

1. Metal tape measure 2. Pencil

Step 1

Measure the frame width.

Using a metal tape measure, measure the width of the outer edge of the frame/architrave. Then add 100mm which gives you 50mm overhang each side, (check you have 50mm free each side). If you don’t have space free do not add the 50mm each side to the width. Alternatively, You can choose to add more, but 50mm either side is standard.

Step 2

Measure the frame height.

For the height, if you are ok with some fabric finishing on the window at the top when blind is pulled up (standard), measure from the top of the outside of the frame to the lowest point of the outside of the frame. Then add 150mm, this gives you 100mm above and 50mm below. If this is a full height window or door, just add the 100mm above as you can’t use the 50mm below.

ALTERNATIVELY: If you want the blind fabric to mostly clear the frame and window at the top you need to add 250mm above and 50mm below. Remember to also fit it 250mm above. Forget the 50mm below only if this is for a full height window or door.

Step 3

Select your chain control side. Generally this is the easiest side to get to. Consider selecting a chain length about 2/3rd the height of the blind.

Chain Safe's

Chain safes's are small plastic clips that fasten the chain in place, as opposed to it freely dangling. They are intended to reduce the risk of strangulation of young children on the blinds chain. Please do not under estimate the possibility of this occurring. Chain safe's also provide a neat and tidy look and stop the chain from moving around in a draft. If you opt for the chain safe's at time of order we do not charge extra for these safety devices. If you forget to order them please email us to arrange some being sent out.

To fasten the chain safe, hook the chain around the circle part of the clip and position it to the wall. Make sure the positioning will not interfere with the blind once fully wound down. Allow for some slack in the chain so you may still operate the blind easily. Once you are satisfied with the position drill into place.
