Roller & Sunscreen Blinds Measuring
Hints
- NEVER use house plan/window schedule sizes.
- ALWAYS use a metal tape measure, record sizes in order of width x height in millimetres.
- Measuring width from the top of the frame is crucial, as this is where brackets will be placed.
- We don't recommend laser measure devices, we suggest you use them as a double check only.
- Optional, print this measure sheet and note sizes down as you measure each window measuring worksheet click here.
Important
The width measurement you provide will be the bracket-to-bracket size of your blind, not the fabric size. We take a deduction off the width of the fabric to allow for the brackets and control mechanism. If you're ordering outside fit Roller Blinds and you want the fabric to be a specific size please contact us to discuss.
Tools Required
- Metal tape measure
- Pen and Paper
Step 1 - Decide Inside or Outside Fit
![]() | INSIDE First check your frame depth. Single Roller needs 60mm frame depth for a flush fit. Alternatively, if you are ok with some of the blind sitting proud of the frame, the minimum depth we suggest is 40mm. A Single Roller bracket is 56mm x 70mm. It is important to scan the window and check for possible obstructions within the frame. PLEASE NOTE A Double Bracket is 88mm x 150mm and frame depth required is 90mm. Double Blinds are best inside fit. Reference image at end of this guide. OUTSIDE If you opt for outside fit make sure you have a thick architrave to screw into or consider fitting to wall space above. If screwing to wall space above make sure you have solid fixing behind. |
Step 2 - Measuring
![]() | After deciding on inside or outside fit, start measuring. Always measure the width first then height, in millimetres. Using a metal tape measure, measure width in three places (top, middle and bottom), where there is a difference of a few millimetres use the smallest measurement. Keep in mind the measurement at the top is the most important as this where the brackets are to be positioned. Measure the height in three places, left, middle, right and again use the smallest measurement. Be accurate, while we can trim Rollers down if measured too wide, we cannot make them wider if measured too short. |
Step 3 - Roll Direction and Chain Side
![]() | Decide on a Roll Direction, this refers to the direction the fabric rolls off the tube. Front Roll means fabric will roll off the tube towards the room. Back Roll means the fabric will roll back towards the window. Back Roll is always recommended for an outside fitted blind, as you want the fabric to roll backwards close to the frame. Front Roll is the best option for inside fit if you want to avoid window latches and door handles. If you are ordering a Thermal Blockout or Designer Roller back roll, please check what colour the back of the fabric is. Whatever the back of the fabric colour is, you will see this across the top of the roll once installed. Some fabrics have off-white coatings and some have coloured coatings. Decide on a Chain Side, usually the most convenient side to get to. |
OPTIONAL: Chain Safe
Decide if you want a chain safe, which are small plastic clips that holds the chain in place. Designed to reduce the risk of strangulation to young children. They also provide a neat and tidy look and stop the chain from moving around in a draft if window or door is open where blind is fitted.
