Aluminum Venetian Blinds Measuring

Hints:

  • NEVER use house plan/window schedule sizes.
  • ALWAYS use a metal tape measure, record sizes in order of width x height in millimetres.
  • Measuring width from the top of the frame is crucial, as this is where brackets will be placed.
  • We don't recommend laser measure devices, we suggest you use them as a double check only.
  • Allowances for brackets are made at the factory - do not factor this in yourself.
  • Optional, print this measuring worksheet and note down sizes as you measure each window Measure Sheet

Tools Required:

  • Metal tape measure + Pen + Paper

Step 1 - Decide Inside or Outside Fit

Decide if you want the blind to fit "inside" or "outside" the window frame. Scan the window and check that no handles or objects will interfere with the operation of the blind. Generally blinds are fitted inside the recess, unless there is not enough room. The depth required within the frame for aluminium venetians is a minimum of 35mm.

Step 2 - Measuring

After deciding on inside or outside fit, start measuring. Always measure the width first then height, in millimetres. Using a metal tape measure, measure width in three places (top, middle and bottom), where there is a difference of a few millimetres use the smallest measurement. Keep in mind the measurement at the top is important as this where the brackets are to be positioned. But be sure to check if frame "kicks in" anywhere.

Measure the height in three places, left, middle, right and again use the smallest measurement. Be accurate.

- For inside fit, measure from one end of the recess to the other, and same for drop.

- For outside fit, measure from the outside edge of the frame on the left to the outside frame on the right. Then same again for the drop.

Step 3 -Control Side

Choose a control side, usually the easiest side to get to. The control is a wand for tilting and a cord for lifting blind up and down. Unless Blind is very narrow, both controls will be on the same side. If blind is less than 400mm wide, it is likely you will end up with split controls, one left and one right, you need to specify your preference in the order comments. Example: For the 350mm wide 25mm Venetian Blind, please can I have the lifting cord on the right, and the tilting wand on the left. Order comments are found on the delivery page after entering your address as part of the checking out process.

Step 4 - Cleat and Hold Downs

Decide if you would like a cleat, a clear plastic device that you wrap the cords around. Please request theses in the order comments.

If you want Hold Down Clips, you must also specify this in the order comments, they are difficult to add after blinds been made, so best you request them at point of order.

Order comments are found after you have added all items to the cart. Once you have entered your address you will see a box called comments, here you can provide any order notes.
